encounters, 2025 (ongoing)
Touching darkness with a flashlight reveals a world of small findings indicating the presence of others in the city before me. I wasn’t here some time ago nor could I meet these people, but I can see their marks around me.
In each image, I encountered a sign left in the city by someone else and placed a small circle of light upon it. This repeated gesture of light is a record of encounters and a statement of my own physical presence.
The spotlight creates the possibility of seeing the signs left by others, but at the same time it limits vision—some parts may remain in the dark, still invisible. Due to these boundaries, our perception and understanding of the motivation behind the visual gesture can shift and blur. Thus, the very light that enables vision becomes its constraint, framing partial sight not as a shortcoming but as the sole condition through which seeing is possible.
